What motion transfer does

Motion transfer uses the movement in a reference video to guide a character created from a still image. Instead of animating every pose by hand, you provide two clear inputs: the character you want to animate and the movement you want that character to perform.

Gobostock also includes a Replace Character workflow. That mode starts with an existing video and changes the person while attempting to preserve the original camera movement, timing, and background. The two workflows solve related but different problems:

  • Transfer Motion is best when your character image is the visual starting point and the reference clip supplies the performance.
  • Replace Character is best when the composition and camera work already exist in a source video.

Prepare a strong character image

Start with an image where the body is easy to understand. A visible silhouette, natural proportions, and separation between arms, legs, and the background give the model clearer information. If the motion depends on footwork, use a full-body image. For gestures or talking-head movement, a waist-up composition may be enough.

Avoid important body parts being cropped by the frame. Heavy motion blur, crossed limbs, and hands hidden behind objects can introduce ambiguity. A detailed image can work well, but readable structure matters more than adding visual complexity.

Choose a useful reference clip

The reference video defines the rhythm and pose changes. Short clips with one clear action are easier to control than a long sequence containing several unrelated movements. A walk, turn, dance phrase, or hand gesture makes a better first test than a clip with cuts and sudden camera changes.

Before generating, check that:

  1. The performer stays visible for the important part of the action.
  2. The movement matches what your character design can plausibly perform.
  3. The clip does not contain people or material you do not have permission to use.
  4. The original sound setting matches your intended result.

Run the workflow

Open Motion Transfer and select the workflow that matches your source material. Upload the character image and reference or source video, choose the available quality tier, and review the displayed credit cost before submitting.

For motion transfer, use the orientation control to help the system interpret whether the character image or reference video should lead the framing. For character replacement, Gobostock uses the configured replacement workflow and may automatically try its supported fallback when the first processing route cannot complete the request.

Generation is not perfectly deterministic. Treat the first result as a creative pass. If the anatomy drifts or the action feels unclear, simplify the source movement, improve the character silhouette, or try a shorter segment.

Review the result

Look beyond whether the character moves. Check the details that determine whether the clip is usable:

  • Does the face remain recognizable throughout the action?
  • Are hands, feet, clothing, and accessories reasonably consistent?
  • Does the movement remain inside the frame?
  • Does the background stay stable enough for your project?
  • If sound was retained, is it synchronized and appropriate?

You can take a successful result into Video Studio to trim its strongest section, change the aspect ratio, adjust speed, mute audio, merge clips, or add text.

Responsible use

Only animate or replace a real person when you have the necessary consent and rights. Do not use the workflow to impersonate people, deceive viewers, or create harmful deepfakes. Clearly disclose synthetic media when the context could otherwise mislead an audience.

Motion transfer works best as a controlled production tool: begin with authorized inputs, make the intended transformation clear, and review every exported frame before publishing.
