Royalty-free does not mean copyright-free

Royalty-free describes a licensing model. After you obtain a valid license, you can use the asset for the permitted purposes without paying a new royalty every time the finished project is viewed, printed, or played. The creator or rights holder still owns the copyright.

The word can be confusing because royalty-free stock may be offered for money or at no charge. A paid royalty-free license and a free royalty-free license can grant similar project permissions; the difference is how you acquired the license, not whether copyright disappeared.

An identifiable person should not be placed in a misleading sensitive context. Audio licensing does not transfer ownership of a person’s voice. Cloned-voice recordings, reusable voice identifiers, biometric inputs, and other private source material are never included in the asset license.
